Rescue Food.Help People |From Surplus to Support

2025-12-12

In Hong Kong, large amounts of food are wasted every day. Since 2009, the Food Commons Foundation and its predecessor projects have been working tirelessly to transform "surplus" into "support". Through market collection, shop surplus recovery, volunteer participation, and corporate collaboration, we deliver excess food to those in need.
Lin Jie's Story
After retirement, life became financially strained, and savings were hard to sustain. She shared: "The food we receive is enough to cover our basic three meals a day. It accounts for more than 50% of my elderly allowance income." This support allows her to feel respected and truly happy.
Over a Decade of Impact
2009–2025: Collected and distributed 10,839,612 kg (over 10,000 tons) of food
Benefited over 10,075,053 people (more than 10 million visits)
Community-based: In Shatin alone last year, 240 tons of food were collected, benefiting 380,000 people
Every HK$1 invested by society = HK$6.5 worth of food support for beneficiaries
Promoting a Food-Saving Culture
The Foundation established Hong Kong's first food donation chain, trained volunteer teams, and built community partnerships to support grassroots families and the homeless. Corporate involvement is also crucial—through workshops and environmental collaborations, companies strengthen food-saving awareness, contribute to ESG, and enhance sustainable development.
This is more than food sharing It is respect, happiness, and hope. Every meal represents society's care and dignity for vulnerable groups.
Food-saving is both an environmental action and a social responsibility. Through multi-sector collaboration, we aim to promote a "Rescue Food, Help People" culture, building a more sustainable and compassionate society.
Take action now—support the Food Commons Foundation. Rescue food, help people, and drive sustainable development to build a more caring Hong Kong.
